The Castel of Kravaře

The Castel of Kravaře is line up between the most significant baroque buildings in Silesia. It was built in 1721-1728, when the owner Jan Rudolf from the mankind Eichendorff. The author of the reconstruction was affected by famous Viennese architects Fischer from Erlach and J.L. von Hildebrant. The park (19 hectares) originated in this time, too. It′s partly modified for a golf course, which verges to forest park and contains uncommon wood species.

 

In the back tract of the castle is a chapel sanctificated to archangel Michael, which was built earlier than the castle - in 1662. The decoration of the chapel is very beautiful. You can see there a altar with a picture "Pád andělů" and a ceiling mural "Nanebevzetí Panny Marie". There was a fire in 1937 in the castle, but the chapel interior preserved. After costlier reconstructions was a historical object reopened in 1970 as the Museum Ostravska operation.

Since 1996 there has been the Castel museum, which controls ethnographical collections of culture in Hlučínsko. These collections tell us about the live of mankind Eichendorff at the Castel of Kravře in 1636 to 1782. You can also see new signs from the beginning of 19th century that comes from the chapel in Kravaře-Kouty. It was restored by Ministry of Culture and by town Kravaře.

During a whole year you may visit different kinds of thematic expositions. This building and the park are a property of Kravaře town. There are many cultural events as Christmas and Eastern at the Castel, Veterans at the Castel, beneficial events, or concerts. You can also have your wedding at the Castel. You can eat at the restaurant, which is part of the Castel. The restaurant is open all year.

Late baroque building of the Castel has a wonderful architecture and it′s, along with the church, is the most beautiful building in Kravaře. Also it′s situated in a calm area of town, where you can learn something about history or just take a walk.

Opening hours: April to October daily except on Mondays - 9:00 - 11:00 a 13:00 - 17:00. Expositions start every hour.
